The Artist Who Chose the Long Road

There are easier ways to build an image than spending years improving before asking people to pay attention. Michael K chose the harder route. Instead of releasing every song he recorded, Michael Constantine Kritikos spent much of his early career learning the craft from every angle. He studied Music Production at The Los Angeles Film School, invested in better equipment as his resources grew, and gradually shifted his focus from trying to do everything himself to becoming exceptional at the areas where he believed he made the greatest impact.

Earlier in his career, Kritikos produced many of his own instrumentals. Today, that responsibility has largely been replaced by something he considers even more valuable: writing stronger songs, delivering better vocal performances, and directing every creative decision surrounding the record. It wasn’t a decision born out of convenience. It was the result of recognizing that great music often comes from collaboration rather than proving a point.

That philosophy extends throughout his entire recording process. Michael K records primarily through a Neumann U87 microphone, a Universal Audio Apollo Twin X interface, and a Neve 1073 preamp, moving between Logic Pro and Pro Tools depending on the creative direction of a session. Once the performance is captured, he turns to longtime recording and mix engineer Orlando, an RIAA Platinum-certified engineer whose credits include Cico P’s “Tampa.”

The two first connected following Michael K’s collaboration with Cico P and have spent nearly a year developing a creative relationship built on trust, honesty, and a shared commitment to making every record stronger than the last. In an era where independent artists often feel pressure to wear every hat, Kritikos has taken a different approach. He isn’t interested in proving he can do everything alone.

He’s interested in building music that stands the test of time. Judging by the patience behind his career so far, it’s a philosophy that has become one of the defining characteristics of both the artist and the person behind the name.
