At only 22 years old, Saihaj Singh Gill is quickly becoming one of the rising names to watch in Punjabi music. With his latest track “Billi Akh” gaining viral momentum online, the Michigan State graduate is proving that consistency and authenticity still stand out in today’s industry.
Saihaj’s journey started during the COVID lockdowns when he and his cousin and brother began making English songs together under the name “NKG.” Recording with a cheap Amazon microphone in a random room, the group made music simply for the love of it.
“We didn’t care about anything except having fun making music,” Saihaj says.
After high school, he stepped away from music for a period before eventually returning while attending Michigan State University. Encouraged by his roommates Gurtegh Singh and Samee, Saihaj entered the Punjabi music scene and later connected with Chan Mudhawala, who he credits heavily for helping guide his career early on.
“Honestly, I wouldn’t be here without Chan Mudhawala,” he explains. “He helped me understand the industry and pushed me in the right direction.”
Like many independent artists, Saihaj says one of the hardest parts of the industry was dealing with fake people and learning who truly wanted to see him succeed. Over time, he learned to keep his circle small and focus only on the people who genuinely supported him.
He especially credits his parents, his brother Nihaal, and his longtime friend Taj for keeping him grounded throughout his journey. Saihaj also says his father played a major role in shaping his mindset by always supporting his dreams while reminding him to keep work and education first.
Alongside music, Saihaj completed his bachelor’s degree and currently works in corporate America while continuing to build his music career independently.
With “Billi Akh” continuing to gain attention and his fanbase growing rapidly, Saihaj Gill says his goal is simple: continue making music, perform on bigger stages, and inspire others chasing dreams of their own.
