Toronto rapper GRABBZ is continuing his independent run with another appearance on the Canadian iTunes charts.
His latest single, “Lighta Lighta” featuring DJ Oshawn, reached No. 11 on the Canadian iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart, adding another charting release to a catalog that has now generated more than one million streams across platforms.
The achievement comes after “I Do This” reached No. 12 on the Canadian iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart, while “Toonies Loonies” previously climbed to No. 5 on the Canadian iTunes chart.
For GRABBZ, the consistency matters.
Rather than having his career defined by one breakout record, the Scarborough artist has been gradually building an audience through a series of independent releases. Each new chart appearance gives him another measurable sign that the music is reaching beyond his existing fan base.
“Lighta Lighta” brings GRABBZ together with DJ Oshawn for a record driven by confidence, energy and a hook designed to stick.
The concept begins with something simple: asking someone for a light. From there, the phrase takes on a bigger meaning, with the idea of a flame representing the energy someone brings into a room.
The record also shows a different side of GRABBZ.
While songs such as “I Do This” leaned heavily into discipline and work ethic, “Lighta Lighta” carries a more celebratory tone. The record feels suited for parties and live settings while still maintaining the confidence that runs throughout his music.
Behind the growing catalog is an artist whose understanding of independence started outside the music industry.
Before his recent chart run, GRABBZ built Hotgrabbz, an entrepreneurial venture that helped establish his name throughout Toronto and earned him recognition as “The Grabba Man.”
Running his own business gave him experience with branding, marketing, customer relationships and self-financing. When his focus expanded into music, GRABBZ applied many of those same lessons to developing himself as an artist.
Instead of waiting for a label to determine how his career should look, he approached his music with an ownership mentality.
That approach extends beyond promotion. GRABBZ studied music engineering and developed experience with the recording and production process, giving him a deeper understanding of what goes into creating a finished record.
His catalog includes releases such as “Nasty,” “Free Game,” “I Hustle Baby,” “Toonies Loonies,” “I Do This” and now “Lighta Lighta.” Across those records, themes of ambition, money, ownership and perseverance continue to connect his music with the experiences that shaped him.
The latest chart result gives GRABBZ another milestone without changing the approach that got him there.
“Hotgrabbz taught me how to build a brand, understand my audience and put my own money behind what I believe in,” GRABBZ says. “I brought that same mentality into the music. Every chart position shows that the work is connecting, but I still feel like the bigger story is just beginning.”
With “Lighta Lighta” reaching No. 11 on the Canadian iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart, GRABBZ continues to turn independent releases into tangible results while building toward the next stage of his career.
“Lighta Lighta” featuring DJ Oshawn is available now on major streaming platforms.
