Alison Wonderland Shares That Her New Studio Album Marks a Return to Her Musical Roots

Alison Wonderland Shares That Her New Studio Album Marks a Return to Her Musical Roots with the announcement of her highly anticipated fourth project, Ghost World, set for release on October 3.

A New Chapter in Her Musical Journey

The upcoming record follows her 2022 LP Loner, as well as 2018’s Awake and 2015’s Run—both of which topped the Billboard Top Dance Albums chart. Speaking with Billboard, Alison revealed that each of her past albums has served as a time capsule, capturing different stages of her life. But with Ghost World, she wanted something different:

“The idea was to create my own world, as I was starting to really doubt where I exist in this life,” she explained.

Following Her Intuition

For Alison, releasing the album now wasn’t about strategy, but instinct.

“My soul feels it. I always go with my gut — never a strategy — and it really feels right for right now,” she said.

So far, she has released two singles, “Again? F–k.” and “Get Started.” A third track, the dreamy, psychedelic future bass song iwannaliveinadream, dropped on August 1.

A Life Transformed

Although Alison released Genesis under her Whyte Fang alias in April 2023, Ghost World is her first album since giving birth to her son, Max, in June 2023. She reflected on how much her life has shifted since her last major release.

“I am in a completely different part of my life now. I met and married the love of my life and created another life, aka my baby Max,” she shared.

Creating Genesis gave her the freedom to rediscover her sound.

“I realized going back to my roots musically is the only way for this next Alison Wonderland album to feel genuine. I got rid of all the outside voices; I felt like I was letting people dictate my art and my voice.”

Building Ghost World on Her Own Terms

Determined to keep her vision authentic, Alison A&R’d the entire album herself, choosing a tight-knit group of collaborators (whose names will be announced soon) and blocking out outside pressures.

The title Ghost World reflects her lifelong sense of not quite fitting in.

“I noticed when writing all these songs that a lot of the lyrics pointed to that, hence the name Ghost World. I want to create a universe where everyone can feel like they belong.”

She added that her influences came solely from her imagination:

“I am a very visual and imaginative person, so this was naturally building in my mind the entire writing process. It just all feels so right — especially in the world right now, a lot of people feel lost.”

Touring Plans on the Horizon

Fans can look forward to a full tour supporting Ghost World, featuring an all-new production. Tour dates and cities will be announced in the coming months.

With this project, Alison Wonderland Shares That Her New Studio Album Marks a Return to Her Musical Roots, offering a deeply personal and imaginative world for her fans to step into.
